THREE GENERATIONS OF TEA PLANTERS

Powysland Bungalow stands on a working tea estate in Dayagama, near Hatton. The Fernando family, planters for three generations, bought it in 2007. The Bungalow keeps the original living and dining rooms, and the Cottage, completed in 2023, stands beside it. A distinctive choice among hotels near Hatton.

Our resident chef cooks authentic dishes, including his signature Lamprais, a dutch delicacy cooked in banana leaf. Tea or coffee is served on the deck at the time you choose. Vegetarian and vegan menus are available on request, and balcony dinners can be arranged, weather permitting.

STAY AT POWYSLAND

Five bedrooms in two buildings sleep up to 14 guests, a boutique stay for couples and families. The Bungalow has a master bedroom and two deluxe doubles. The Cottage has two deluxe doubles, each with two single beds upstairs for children. each with a balcony overlooking the tea fields.

PEKOE TRAIL STAGE 10

Walk 15 km from Dayagama to Horton Plains in about 5 hours. Rated Difficult. Ask us for a picnic breakfast.

HORTON PLAINS ON FOOT

Walk, get a tuk-tuk or van for 7 km to the Hortan Plains Dayagama entrance, then walk 1.5 hours to Farr Inn, where your vehicle waits to continue your journey. Charges apply.
